What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured three people at Lee Trevino Dr in El Paso, TX on November 26th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:32 a.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Elantra was eastbound before losing control and crashing into a barrier near an exit. The vehicle is said to have become disabled as a result and was blocking a moving a lane of travel as a Chevrolet Malibu, operated by 43-year-old Jacob Portillo, approached. Reports say the Malibu struck the disabled Hyundai, whose driver had exited the vehicle prior to the collision. Following this, police say an approaching Dodge Dart struck debris from the earlier crashes. That driver, who was not publicly identified, was seriously injured, reports say. Portillo and the Elantra operator, also not publicly identified, are said have suffered less serious injuries.  Reports allege charges of DWI were issued against two of the drivers involved.
