Area authorities have information on a crash that injured a driver at 53rd St in Galveston, TX on July 8th, 2023. Police believe the incident happened around 7:19 a.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 1500 operated by a 24-year-old driver who was not publicly identified was headed southbound at the time. It has been alleged by authorities that the vehicle collided with rear of a Volkswagen Taos stopped for a red light at the intersection with Ave U. From there, police say the Dodge collided with a nearby fire hydrant and telephone pole before coming to rest. The operator of the Volkswagen, identified as 76-year-old James Butts, is believed to have suffered serious injuries in the crash. The other driver was evaluated for possible injuries and a charge of DWI was recommended and/or issued.
