What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at State Hwy 64 in Rusk County, TX on March 8th, 2024. Authorities are saying the incident happened around 9:31 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer was eastbound on Hwy 64, navigating a curve in the roadway under heavy rain weather conditions. While navigating the curve, reports say the truck lost traction with the road, due to speed, weather conditions of a faulty rear tire. This caused the truck to enter into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer, the two vehicles colliding and the impact sending the first truck into an embankment. The second truck, operated by 53-year-old James Michael Howard, overturned in the impact and caught fire, leaving Howard fatally injured. The driver of the other truck, who was not publicly identified, is said to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and charged with Criminal Negligent Homicide.
