Texas Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at State Hwy 158 in Ector County, TX on August 31st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Tahoe was allegedly attempting to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. The vehicle is alleged to have swerved ahead causing the Tahoe to collided with a Ford F-150. The Tahoe then lost control, according to officials, before overturning several times. The driver, identified as 28-year-old James Rodney Porter, was ejected from the vehicle. Officials say Porter was taken to an area hospital with injuries he later died from. The Ford operator, 33-year-old Pedro Norman Mercado, was not injured, according to officials. Additional information was not available.
