What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed at least one person at State Hwy 35 in Aransas County, TX on July 3rd, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. According to investigators, a Honda Pilot head southbound on State Hwy 35 is alleged to have hydroplaned in heavy rain weather conditions. This is said to have caused the vehicle to enter into a northbound lane of travel where it collided with a tractor-trailer headed northbound. The driver of the Honda, identified as 76-year-old Janus Ehlers, was fatally injured, reports say. A passenger, identified as 76-year-old John Ehlers, was hospitalized in critical condition. Sources indicate Ehlers passed away several days later, however, it was not made clear if injuries sustained in the crash was a factor. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not publicly identified, allegedly suffered minor injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
