What Happened

Seguin Police Department officials are investigating a crash that killed three people at I-10 in Seguin, TX on August 26th, 2021. Police say the incident happened when a semi-truck hauling meat products lost its cargo while attempting to avoid colliding with TXDOT workers nearby. The meat caused the road to become slick, leading to another semi-truck to swerve to avoid crashing and veering into a guardrail and another car. The car caught fire and other vehicles ended up crashing as a result of the earlier crashes. Three people were killed. They were later identified as 48-year-old Jason Howell, 36-year-old Jason Sanchez and 37-year-old Joseph Cline. 63-year-old William Daugherty and 54-year-old Noby Uthuppan were hospitalized with serious injuries. Police cited the truck driver with Failure to Properly Secure Load and Failure to Reduce Speed. Additional information was not available.
