What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at US 80 in Wood County, TX on January 13th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. A Ford Escape operated by 88-year-old Jeanene Upton was headed westbound on US 80 behind a commercial highway safety truck. Investigators say witnesses told them the sun setting in the area seemingly impacted driver visibility. The highway safety truck had an attached arrow board that was pointing left for traffic to move in that direction with emergency flashers active. The Escape collided with the rear of a the truck, causing serious injuries to Upton. She was hospitalized for treatment and police confirmed she died from her injuries on February 1st.  The other driver was not injured. Additional information was not immediately available.
