What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at FM 787 in Liberty County, TX on April 1st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 2:57 p.m. According to investigators, a Mack tractor-trailer was headed westbound on FM 787 headed towards County Rd 2164. A pedal-cycle operated by 71-year-old Jerrold Tunnell, was headed westbound with a group ahead of the truck. Police believe the truck disregarded a no passing zone warning while passing to the left and struck the cycle. Tunnell suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The truck driver, 84-year-old Robert Dave Brown, was not injured. Reports indicate a Criminally Negligent Homicide charge was recommended and/or issued.
