What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at FM 23 in Cherokee County, TX on June 9th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Tahoe operated by 48-year-old Jessica Clayton, was headed northbound on FM 23 when it allegedly overcorrected and and went into a skid after veering from the road. It then overturned and went airborne before hitting a tree. Clayton suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Officers alleged suspicion that alcohol played a factor in the crash.
