What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash at FM 1716 in Rusk County, TX on December 1st, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 7:20 p.m. Investigators are saying a tractor-trailer operated by 28-year-old Leonardo Ochoa was headed northbound on FM 1716 on the wrong side of the road when it collided with pickup truck in a southbound lane. They say the truck attempted to move back into a northbound lane before the collision but the trailer was partially blocking the lane of the pickup truck. The pickup truck driver, 39-year-old Jimmy Gaytan, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Additional information was not immediately available.
