What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at I-45 in Walker County, TX on September 30th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 6:10 a.m. A Chevrolet Impala operated by 65-year-old Jose Nieto was headed westbound on FM 2989 when veered from the north side of the road. It then traveled through a grass median and struck the rear of a tractor-trailer parked on an eastbound I-45 feeder road shoulder. Nieto suffered fatal injuries in the collision while one passenger, 59-year-old Deysi Aparicio, was seriously injured. A second passenger, age 67, suffered minor injuries while the truck driver was not injured.
