What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured several people at State Hwy 19 in Van Zandt, TX on May 1st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 8:34 p.m. According to investigators, a Nissan Altima operated by 28-year-old Caleb Waller was headed eastbound on FM 859 approaching the stop sign with State Hwy 19. Police allege the vehicle ran the stop sign and collided with a Ford F-250 operated by a 40-year-old Teague man. The impact left 26-year-old Nissan passenger, Dixie Russell, and 42-year-old Nissan passenger, Joseph Roch, with serious injuries. A 4-year-old in the vehicle was also seriously injured. Waller suffered minor injuries and reports indicate Intoxication Assault, Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and Open Container in Motor Vehicle charges were recommended and/or issued.
