What Happened

Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at I-37 in Live Oak County, TX on October 28th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 7:28 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 2500 was allegedly traveling the incorrect direction on northbound lanes of I-37.  The vehicle collided head-on with a Volkswagen Atlas, occupied by 45-year-old driver, Joseph Thompson and 44-year-old passenger, Jessica Thompson. Officials say the Thompsons were unable to exit the vehicle after the crash, which caused their vehicle to catch fire. Both were fatally injured. Authorities say the driver of the Dodge, identified as 32-year-old Junior Velasquez, was arrested on a charge of Intoxication Manslaughter. Additional informaiton was not available.
