What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have information on a crash that killed a woman at State Hwy 59 near Bowie, TX on July 7th, 2023. Police are saying it happened around 5:45 p.m. According to investigators, an SUV operated by 62-year-old Elizabeth Ann Price was headed northbound. At the same time, a Nissan Sentra operated by 21-year-old Simon Zavier Ford was traveling southbound. Police allege the Sentra was attempting to pass other vehicles in a no-pass zone, forcing the approaching SUV to veer into a shoulder in an attempt to avoid a collision. The Nissan is believed to have went to the left as the SUV went right, the two vehicles colliding head-on in the process. The impact sent the Nissan airborne where it overturned onto its roof upon landing. 23-year-old passenger, Journie Rakae Fletcher, was ejected from the vehicle in the crash, suffering fatal injuries. Price had injuries considered to be minor while her passenger, 65-year-old James Edward Price, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Ford was also seriously injured, according to police, and also hospitalized. Additional information was not available.
