What Happened

Police have information on a crash that killed one person involved at US 271 in Camp County, TX on August 25th, 2024. Officials say the incident happened around 9:50 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 1500 headed northbound on shoulder of US 271 is said to have been traveling at a speed below the posted limit as a northbound Ford F-350 approached. The Ford, which was towing a trailer hauling farming equipment, collided with the Dodge following what reports allege was an unsafe lane merge from the shoulder to an outside lane. The impact from the crash caused the Dodge to overturn and catch fire and the Ford to strike a guardrail and veer down a nearby embankment. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 29-year-old Juan Soria Hernandez, was fatally injured. The other driver, identified as 40-year-old Kristopher Douglas, was seriously injured, reports say.
