What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at FM 529 in Harris County, TX on October 8th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 10:45 p.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Tucson operated by a 24-year-old Cypress woman was headed eastbound on FM 529 while an Infiniti Q50 was also headed eastbound. A pedestrian, identified as 52-year-old Juan Ubieta was said to have been headed southbound across the eastbound lanes while pushing a shopping cart. While attempting to avoid a collision, Ubieta was struck by the Infiniti and pushed into the path of the Hyundai, which also struck Ubieta. Police say the Hyundai left the scene following the collision and Ubieta suffered fatal injuries. Additional details were not available.
