What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed three people at US Hwy 81 in Montague County, TX on June 10th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 5:10 a.m. Investigators allege a northbound Chevrolet Silverado crossed a center line before colliding with a southbound Ford F-150. The collision caused the Ford to catch fire. The driver of the Silverado, identified as 32-year-old Katelyn Smott, was killed. Also killed was the driver of the Ford, 78-year-old James Echols and his passenger, 78-year-old Billy Herron. Additional information was not available.
