What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at US 84 in Lubbock County, TX on July 5th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 5:09 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer headed southeast on US 84 is allotted to have veered from its lane at a curve in the road, colliding with a Hyundai Accent. Police say the driver of the Hyundai, identified as 64-year-old Kevin Ortiz, was fatally injured. The other driver was not publicly identified and was allegedly uninjured. Sources indicate a Failure to Drive in Single Lane charge was recommended and/or issued against the operator of the tractor-trailer.
