Police say the incident happened around 4:26 a.m. According to investigators, a Ford F-250 operated by 38-year-old Kevin Patnode was southeast on US 287, navigating a curve in the roadway. Investigators believe the vehicle lost control and veered from its lane into a ditch before colliding with a nearby guardrail. From there, police say the vehicle struck several fixed wooden posts before going into a skid and overturning. Patnode was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
