What Happened

Smith County Police are investigating a crash that killed one person at I-20 in Smith County, TX on June 6th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 8 p.m. According to instigators, a tractor-trailer was headed westbound as a pickup also headed westbound approached. Police say the pickup truck  struck the side of the tractor-trailer under unclear circumstances. The impact caused the pickup truck to travel across a center median and overturn. The four occupants of the truck were ejected from the vehicle in the process, leaving all seriously injured. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Khaled J. Al Masalmah, later died from injuries at the hospital. Additional information was not available.
