What Happened

Smith County Police are investigating a crash at Toll 49 and FM 16 in Smith County, TX on August 30th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around noon. Investigators say the roads were slick due to rainy weather conditions as an ambulance headed northbound to respond to a call. A Chevrolet Impala is said to have lost control and veered into the path of the ambulance, the two colliding. The woman operating the Chevrolet, 51-year-old Laina Wanttie, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Two EMT's were hospitalized with serious injuries. Additional details were not available.
