What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at TX 153 in Taylor County, TX on September 23rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 9:19 p.m. A Dodge Ram 2500 operated by 31-year-old Jose Juan Ortiz was passing in a no pass zone attempting to pass a semi-truck when it collided with a Ford Ranger operated by 65-year-old Lavern Arthur Korgan Jr. Korgan suffered serious injuries as did his 57-year-old female passenger. A 29-year-old female passenger in the Dodge suffered minor injuries while Ortiz was evaluated for possible injuries. Investigators allege Ortiz had been drinking prior to the crash and issued a Disregard No Passing Zone charge.
