What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed three people at West 3rd St in Baird, TX on May 5th, 2024. Police say the incident happened when a vehicle operated by 19-year-old James May collided with a vehicle operated by 35-year-old Ashlie Haynes. Reports say the collision caused three people to be ejected from the vehicle operated by May. Two of the ejected victims were identified as 18-year-old Layni Potter and 18-year-old Madi Buchanan, who both died at the scene. The third, age 16 and not publicly identified, was also fatally injured. Reports indicate both Haynes and May were hospitalized with suspected non-life-threatening injuries. Reports allege Haynes was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Additional information was not immediately available.
