What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at FM 2657 in Burnet County, TX on July 29th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 7:35 a.m. According to investigators, a Ford Fusion operated by 39-year-old Lee Bonner Whipkey was headed southbound on FM 2675 when it allegedly attempted to move around a vehicle ahead by traveling into a northbound lane. As it did, it collided head-on with a tractor-trailer operated by a 32-year-old Elgin man. Whipkey suffered fatal injuries in the collision. No other injuries were reported.
