What Happened

Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 181 in Karnes County, TX on August 19th, 2024. Police are saying the incident happened around 7:27 p.m. According to investigators, a Ram 1500 headed northbound on US 181 is alleged to have crossed a double yellow line, entering into oncoming traffic. There, repots say the vehicle collided with a Ford F-250, which reports say attempted to avoid the collision with the Ram but was unable. The collision is said to have caused the Ram to roll and catch fire, killing 43-year-old Ram operator, Michael Ely. Also killed was a 15-year-old passenger in the Ford. Its operator, identified as 32-year-old Lisa Zambrano, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Additional information was not available.
