What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that killed a driver at US 271 in Camp County, TX on December 7th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 4:45 a.m. A vehicle operated by 23-year-old Luis Arellano Velazquez was traveling northbound on US 271 when, for unknown reasons, it collided with the rear of a northbound tractor-trailer. Velazquez suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at an area hospital. Investigators are saying Velazquez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The truck driver, 59-year-old Edward Salazar, was not injured.
