What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at US 259 in Nacogdoches County, TX on January 1st, 2022. Police are saying it occurred around 4:15 a.m. A Chevrolet Tahoe operated by 35-year-old Luis Gallegos was headed southbound on US 259 when investigators say it veered from its lane and crossed over to the northbound lanes. From there, it reportedly entered a bar ditch and rotated into a tree before rolling onto its left side. Gallegos was reportedly seriously injured. Responding officers say the an open alcoholic beverage and marijuana were allegedly located inside the vehicle and expressed belief both may have played a factor in the crash. Records indicate a charge of Driving While Intoxicated: Open Container was recommended and/or issued.
