What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that killed one person involved at US Hwy 285 in Reeves County, TX on October 12th, 2024. Officials say an International truck headed southbound on US 285 is said to have veered from the roadway for unclear reasons. Upon returning to the road, the vehicle spun and hit a Chevrolet Equinox headed northbound. Officials say the impact caused the Chevrolet to catch fire, leaving Mahmoud M Abbad fatally injured.  41-year-old Benjamin Raul Hernandez was hospitalized with minor injuries, officials say. Additional information was not immediately available.
