What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed woman at US Hwy 83 in Starr County, TX on December 11th, 2021. Officials say it happened as 55-year-old Marcelina Alfaro Castillo was traveling by foot. Investigators say a vehicle operated by 48-year-old Yesenia Garza collided with Castillo under unclear circumstances before leaving the scene. Castillo suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Officers with the Starr County Sheriff's Office were able to locate Garza after the collision and reports indicate she was charged with Failure to Stop/Leaving the Scene of Accident Involving Death.
