What Happened

Authorities have information on a crash that killed one person involved at TX 31 in Smith County, TX on August 14th, 2024. According  to investigators, a pickup truck operated by 22-year-old Cesar Efrain Viramontes-Cocolon is alleged to have veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with an 18-wheeler and SUV. Officials say the driver of the SUV, identified as 58-year-old Maria Hernandez, was fatally injured. The 18-wheeler operator was allegedly uninjured, reports say, while Viramontes-Cocolon was hospitalized following the collision. Reports allege Viramontes-Cocolon was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter in connection with the crash. Additional information was not available.
