Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person at State Hwy 60 in Hungerford, TX on December 27th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:18 p.m. According to investigators, a Lincoln MKX was northbound on Hwy 60 before allegedly attempting a left turn onto McKinney St. The vehicle is alleged to have failed to yield right of way before colliding head-on with a southbound Buick Encore. Reports say both vehicles caught fire in the crash and the driver of the Buick, identified as 45-year-old Joanne Gomez, was hospitalized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Her passenger, 64-year-old Maria Lopez Gomez, suffered fatal injuries from the crash. The other driver, an 87-year-old woman who was not publicly identified, had possible injuries, reports say. Reports also show a Failure to Yield Right of Way charge was recommended and/or issued against the woman. Additional information was not available.
