Authorities in Zavala County, TX, are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle collision that occurred on January 21, 2025, at approximately 12:22 a.m. on U.S. Highway 57. Investigators are saying semi-truck was traveling west when it allegedly failed to control his speed and collided with a Ford E-Series van that was disabled in the traffic lane. The van’s 60-year-old driver, identified as Maria Pineda, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after. Two passengers, a 25-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, sustained minor injuries.
