What Happened

Lubbock Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at Hwy 84 and Loop 430 in Lubbock, TX on July 13th, 2021. Police say the incident happened just before 5 p.m. A Honda Accord is accused of running a stop sign at an intersection and crossed into the path of a tractor-trailer. The two vehicles collided, despite attempted evasive actions, killed in the driver of the Honda at the scene. The driver was identified as 45-year-old Mario Amilcar Ortiz-Diaz. A rear-seat passenger, 2-year-old Scarlett Saponaro, was also killed. 21-year-old Karla Theresa Garcia Aguilar, a front seat passenger, was hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of the tractor-trailer reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene.
