What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured three people at US 83 in San Juan, TX on November 20th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 12:28 a.m. A Ford Fusion operated by 28-year-old Ricardo Martinez was headed eastbound on West Business 83 when investigators allege it veered out of its lane and into oncoming traffic. It then collided with an oncoming westbound Chevrolet Suburban operated by 45-year-old Mario Ayala. Ayala suffered minor injuries while his passenger, 38-year-old Cynthia Ayala, was more seriously injured. Two teens in the vehicle, ages 16 and 18, were evaluated for possible injuries. Martinez, who suffered serious injuries, was charged with Intoxication Assault.
