What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at I-27 near New Deal, TX on July 19th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 1:40 a.m. 18-year-old Mark Anthony Holmes was operating a Dodge Ram 1500 that suffered a tire blowout and was moved to the shoulder with its left side tires resting on the fog line. As Holmes was changing the tire, he reportedly walked around to the front of the of the vehicle to retrieve an item and was struck by a tractor-trailer. Holmes was taken to an area hospital with injuries that he later died from. Additional information was not immediately available.
