What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the death of a driver at US 271 in Red River County, TX on September 17th, 2021. They say the incident took place around 11 p.m. A tractor-trailer operated by a 38-year-old Minneapolis, MN man was headed northbound on 271 as it approached a Chevrolet C2500 operated by 48-year-old Mark Simmons. Investigators are saying the Chevrolet passed an intended turn onto County Road 1410 and had pulled into the shoulder to begin making a u-turn when unsafe before it was struck by the tractor-trailer. The Chevrolet was pushed into a ditch, overturning and causing fatal injuries to Simmons. There were also three teen passengers, ages 17, 16 and 14, who were evaluated for possible injuries. The Minneapolis man was not injured.
