What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that injured several people at I-30 in Mesquite, TX on December 25th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2 a.m. According to investigators, a Lexus UX was allegedly traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-30 prior to colliding head-on with an approaching Chevrolet Tahoe. Following this initial collision, reports say the Lexus also struck a Chevrolet Silverado before striking a concrete barrier. Reports indicate an 11-year-old child in the Tahoe was seriously injured. A second child in the vehicle was less seriously injured, as were 39 and 37-year-old passengers. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Marlon Velasquez, also had non-life-threatening injuries, police say, as did the McKinney woman operating the Lexus. Sources indicate an Intoxication Assault charge was recommended and/or issued against the woman.
