What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured at least two people at State Hwy 288 in Manvel, TX on June 22nd, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 1:13 p.m. According to investigators, a Jeep Wrangler operated by a 67-year-old Houston man that was not publicly identified was headed southbound. Also headed southbound ahead of the Jeep was a Nissan Versa operated by 19-year-old Matthew Perez. Officials believe the Jeep failed to control its speed and collided with the Nissan. The impact pushed the Nissan into a nearby tractor-trailer, leaving Perez with suspected minor injuries. A passenger in the Nissan, age 20, had more serious injuries, according to police. The Houston man has suspected minor injuries and a Failure to Control Speed charge was recommended and/or issued.
