What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that injured a driver at US 259 in Upshur County, TX on August 2nd, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 4:27 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Challenger headed northbound is alleged to have been evading authorities before allegedly attempting a u-turn from a shoulder. In the process, the vehicle is said to have impacted an approaching Chevrolet Avalanche, the impact causing the Chevrolet to overturn multiple times. Reports say the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 21-year-old Matthew Thompson, was seriously injured. The other driver was not publicly identified and also allegedly seriously injured and charged with Reckless Driving and Evading Arrest.
