What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have information on a crash that killed a driver at FM 3483 in San Augustine County, TX on October 16th, 2021. They are saying it happened around 5:30 p.m and allege that involved a Cadillac CTS traveling at a high rate of speed. The CTS, operated by 57-year-old Melissa Runnels lost control once it veered from the road and crashed into a culvert, overturned and ejected Runnels from the vehicle. Runnels was pronounced dead at the scene. Responding officers allege there was an odor of alcohol detected either on Runnels or in the vehicle at the scene.
