What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that injured a person at FM 2087 in Gregg County, TX on February 23rd, 2022. They say the incident happened around 4:25 a.m. According to initial investigation, A Nissan Altima was previously traveling northbound on FM 2087 when it reportedly ran out of gas. The occupants of the vehicle exited the vehicle to move it from the roadway as one occupant, identified as Michael Sanchez, remained in the vehicle to steer. Investigators say as this was happening, an approaching Chevrolet Impala operated by Carlos Melendez Ramos collided with Nissan. The three people outside the vehicle were able to move prior to impact while Sanchez suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. Ramos was suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash.
