What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a person at College St in Van Zandt County, TX on April 19th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 2 a.m. According to investigators, a Mercedes-Benz 300 operated by 23-year-old Jared Hayes was headed westbound on College St when it reportedly lost control while navigating a left curve in the road. It then veered from the road and collided with trees and a fence before crashing into a utility pole and ejecting a rear seat passenger, identified as 24-year-old Miguel Jimenez Garcia. Garcia suffered fatal injuries while Hayes and two other passengers, 19-year-old Angel Leon and Joshua Aleman, suffered minor injuries. Officers alleged suspicion that Hayes was under the influence at the time of the collision.
