Area authorities have information regarding a multi-vehicle crash that left multiple people injured at I-35 in Gainesville, TX on June 5th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 12:35 p.m. Investigators believe a Nissan Rogue operated by 36-year-old Giovanny Vargas was stopped in a southbound lane of travel, a Ford F-150 stopped directly behind it. After also coming to a stop, police say a GMC Sierra was struck by a tractor-trailer they allege failed to control its speed. This created a chain-reaction style crash between the vehicles that left the GMC operator with suspected serious injuries. A 57-year-old passenger in the Ford as well as the tractor-trailer operator has less serious injuries, according to police. Also less seriously injured was Vargas, who authorities allege displayed signs of intoxication at the scene. No additional information was disclosed.
