What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a woman and child at US Hwy 84 in Lubbock, TX on February 4th, 2022. They say the incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. 24-year-old Nikkee Danielle Neel was reportedly involved in a single vehicle crash and exited the vehicle along with a 6-year-old boy. As both were on-foot walking away from the crash to obtain assistance, police say they were struck by a Chevrolet passenger van headed westbound. Neel and the child both suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the van, 54-year-old David Scott Shults, was not injured. Police say the roads were clear and dry at the time of the crash. Additional details were not available.
