What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that killed a pedestrian at Eldora Rd in San Juan, TX on October 2nd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2 a.m. Investigators say that a vehicle operated by 35-year-old Edith Yacibe Garza collided with a pedestrian identified as 19-year-old Ofelia Merlene Proa. Proa was hospitalized with injuries that she later died from. After the collision, the vehicle left the scene and Garza later turned herself into police. Police allege that Garza also confessed to consuming alcohol prior to the crash.
