What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured two people at I-10 in Fayette County, TX on May 8th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 5:40 p.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Elantra operated by 54-year-old Patricia Garcia was headed westbound on I-10 when a nearby tractor-trailer operated by a 21-year-old Richmond Hill, NY man reportedly traveled through a set of merging lanes in a construction zone, disregarding warning signs. The Hyundai attempted to pass the truck before colliding with a construction barrel and metal barrier and overturned, striking the truck. The truck continued straight into a metal barrier and overturned into the guardrail before debris struck a nearby Mustang. Garcia and her 51-year-old passenger were both seriously injured. The other drivers involved were not injured.
