What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials identified the person killed in a collision at I-20 in Reeves County, TX on April 2nd, 2025. Police say the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. According to investigators, a westbound semi-truck is alleged to have swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle near a construction zone. From there, reprots say the vehicle struck an employee in the construction zone, identified as 24-year-old Patrick Daniel Purdon, fatally injured. Police say the driver was identified as 77-year-old Jose Alfonso Melendez, and allegedly charged with failure to stop and render aid in a collision involving death.
