What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have details on a crash that led to a fatality at FM 1788 in Lubbock, TX on February 19th, 2022. They say the crash was reported around 6:45 p.m. and involved as many as four vehicles. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado headed southbound on FM 1788 veered into a northbound lane for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a northbound semi-truck. The impact caused the truck to veer into a Chevrolet 3500 parked at the entrance to a gated road. A southbound Ford F-250 is said to have swerved to try to avoid the collision and overturned into a bar ditch. The driver of the Silverado, identified as 22-year-old Peyton Michael Lewis, died at the scene. A passenger, 59-year-old Lonnie Michael Lewis, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The Ford driver, 39-year-old Pedro Sawatzky Weibe, was treated and released. The other drivers involved were not injured.
