Officials in Pecos, TX, are investigating a fatal collision between a commercial vehicle and a train that occurred on December 18, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 285. According to investigators, a Peterbilt truck tractor hauling an oversized load became stuck on the railroad tracks when it was struck by an oncoming train.

The crash resulted in the deaths of two train occupants, 47-year-old Phillip Araujo and 63-year-old Clay Burt. The truck driver,  was reportedly uninjured.
