What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at I-30 in Mesquite, TX on January 29th, 2022. Police say it happened around 5:42 p.m. A Ford Escape operated by 28-year-old Julie Reed is accused of drifting into a lane occupied by a Kia Optima and colliding with the other vehicle. Investigators believe the Ford failed to yield as the Kia was entering an entrance ramp and collided with the vehicle and a guardrail, sending the Kia across a grass median over a curb. The driver of the Kia, 29-year-old Rochelle Cooper, was serious injured. Reed was not injured and records show a Driving While Intoxicated charge was recommended and/or issued.
